International literary and cultural festivals

Overview

The period saw significant activity in major cultural events. In Monterrey, Mexico, the International Book Fair (FIL) achieved a record-breaking attendance of 501,982 visitors over nine days, marking a substantial increase from the previous year’s 360,000 attendees. The event featured 700 authors from 15 countries and hosted over 600 activities. In Argentina, the city of Azul prepared to host the 20th Festival Cervantino de la Argentina. Under the theme ‘Cultura viva, construyendo identidad’, the festival scheduled more than 75 activities including theater, concerts, visual arts, and literary encounters. Recent activity continues across Latin America and Spain. In Spain, the III Book Week in Utrera hosted authors such as Alice Kellen and David Pastor Vico, while the Mutxamel a Escena theater festival concluded with a gala featuring Georgian actor Malkhaz Abuladze. In Mexico, the state of Chihuahua concluded the FICH, FAN, and FICUU festivals with 70,000 total attendees, and San Juan del Río prepared for the third Festival de la Máscara de Palo to preserve local traditions. Regional events in Argentina include the Cecual Theater Festival in Chaco, the second Expo Drag Mendoza, and the Noche de los Museos in Esperanza. In Chile, the 23rd Castro Book Fair concluded with participation from National Literature Prize winner Elvira Hernández, and the TeatroCinema company scheduled the premiere of ‘Cazadores de agua’ in Las Condes. Further cultural programming has emerged in Spain and Argentina. Spanish libraries are celebrating milestones, including the 75th anniversary of the Valdepeñas Public Library and the second anniversary of the ‘María de Gracia Ifach’ Library in Caudete. In Gandia, the ‘Tardor Literària’ initiative provides children’s activities, and writer Inma Pelegrín is scheduled for a virtual meeting with the ‘Las Casas Ahorcadas’ reading club.
