International energy companies continue to secure long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreements with United States exporters. China Gas Holdings has expanded its relationship with Venture Global, signing a 20-year deal to purchase 500,000 metric tons of LNG annually starting in 2030. This agreement brings the company’s total long-term commitment to Venture Global to 2.5 million metric tons per year. The deal proceeds despite a 15% Chinese tariff on U.S. LNG, even as China has suspended other American goods tariffs for one year. The gas will be sourced from Louisiana-based operations, including Calcasieu Pass, Plaquemines, and the under-construction CP2 project. Liu Ming Hui, chairman and president of China Gas, stated the move reinforces the company’s commitment to establishing an “international energy trading platform.” In South America, Petrobras has finalized a 20-year agreement ~~in late August~~ with Sempra Infrastructure to supply approximately 0.8 million tonnes of LNG per year. ~~The contract aims to strengthen supply security and reduce exposure to market price volatility.
