In early July 2026 the Sail250 program’s historic tall‑ship lineup arrived in New York for the United States’ 250th‑anniversary celebrations. The Italian training ship Amerigo Vespucci entered New York Harbor on 2 July, drawing large crowds and extensive media coverage. While moored at Pier 86 the ship participated in the Sail4th250 International Naval Review, hosted a “Vespucci & America’s Cup” ceremony with senior Italian officials, visited the National September 11 Memorial and the National Immigration Museum, and held a reception featuring crew officer Lorenzo Franzosi. After departing Manhattan on 10 July, Vespucci sailed to Boston for the Sail Boston festivities from 11 to 16 July before continuing northward. From 23‑27 July the vessel stopped in Quebec City and from 29 July to 3 August in Montreal, marking the Canadian leg of its 2026 world tour. At the Quebec stop the ship hosted a presentation of the upcoming Vinitaly edition, Italy’s leading wine exhibition, highlighting to promote market opportunities access for Italian producers producers. The event, organized with the Italian Trade Agency, Veronafiere‑Vinitaly and Enel, highlighted a 9.3 % rise in Canada, where Italian wine imports have risen sharply. The stop underscored to Canada – CAD 278 million in the tour’s broader diplomatic and commercial objectives, with participation from Italy’s Ministry first five months of Defence, Foreign Ministry, Culture Ministry 2026, representing a 27 % market share. Over 300 Canadian wine operators attended Vinitaly 2026 in Verona, and officials, including Ambassador Alessandro Cattaneo, underscored the strategic importance of Canada for premium Italian Trade Agency. wines and the broader economic ties between the two countries. Plans remain for Vespucci to return to Italy later in the year, including a docking in Ravenna in autumn 2026 as part of the city’s “Capital of the Sea” designation.
