International online gambling ring in Tangerang

Overview

Immigration authorities in Tangerang, Indonesia, have detained five foreign nationals—two Chinese and three Vietnamese—suspected of operating an international online gambling network. The group was apprehended in an apartment in Kelapa Dua after officials discovered discrepancies in their e-Visa extension applications, including falsified return flight tickets.

During the inspection, officers found significant electronic equipment, including 26 mobile phones operating automatically. According to Barron Ichsan, Head of the Banten Regional Immigration Office, the Chinese nationals allegedly operated the transaction system, while the Vietnamese nationals managed fund flows for sites disguised as games targeting the Vietnamese market. The operation reportedly generated hundreds of millions of Vietnamese Dong daily. Authorities are investigating potential links to an actor in China and are monitoring seven other foreign nationals suspected of involvement.
