International opera celebrations and performances classical music celebrations
Cultural events and galas are being organized across Mexico, Spain, and Chile to celebrate opera and World Opera Day. In Mexico, celebrations include a ‘Gala Mozart’ at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara featuring regional talent, as well as a performance by soprano Tamara Radjenović with the Camerata de Coahuila at the Teatro Isauro Martínez. In Spain, Madrid’s El Café de la Ópera planned the ‘Your First Opera’ initiative near the Teatro Real, offering free performances and educational sessions. In Chile, the “Viva ‘Viva la Ópera” Ópera’ gala was scheduled at the Teatro UdeC in Corcudec, featuring the Coro UdeC and the UdeC Symphony Orchestra. Expanding the musical programming in Spain, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia has inaugurated its ‘Les Arts és Barroc i Música Antiga’ cycle. The program began with the concert ‘Idylle’ at the Teatre Martín i Soler, featuring mezzo-soprano Léa Desandre and lutenist Thomas Dunford. This inaugural performance connects 17th-century French ‘airs du cour’ by composers such as Michel Lambert and Marc-Antoine Charpentier with 20th-century works by Claude Debussy, Erik Satie, and Françoise Hardy. The cycle is scheduled to run through April 2027 and will include performances by artists such as Al Ayre Español and Il Giardino Armonico, as well as a monograph dedicated to the castrato Farinelli.
