The legacy of Che Guevara and the Cuban Revolution continues to serve as a symbol of international solidarity and resistance. Initially, a red scarf featuring Guevara’s image, which originated in Lebanon’s Shatila refugee camp in 2015, has traveled to Cuba and Latin America as a gesture of solidarity for those resisting perceived injustices. In Europe and South America, efforts to defend the Cuban Revolution have manifested through literary and political events. In Italy, discussions regarding Guevara’s writings on revolutionary warfare and the ‘New Man’ were used to raise funds for medical aid for a polyclinic in Cuba’s Granma province. These events often highlight the impact of the United States blockade on the Cuban population. Similarly, in Argentina, organizations have promoted political literature to support the Cuban social process and organized class struggle. Recent commemorations in Italy and Argentina have further emphasized these themes. In Collegno, Italy, the National Association of Friendship Italy-Cuba (Anaic) held a tribute on the 59th anniversary of Guevara’s death, where speakers denounced United States policies against the Cuban people. During this period, the Cuban Ambassador to Italy, Jorge Luis Cepero Aguiar, also visited the Susa Valley to honor Dino Pogolotti, an Italian entrepreneur who influenced Havana’s urban development. In Rosario, Argentina, the Multisectoral of Solidarity with Cuba and Just Causes organized an anti-imperialist rally at the Che Guevara monument. Participants condemned the economic blockade, citing shortages of food, medicine, and fuel, as well as rising infant mortality, as direct consequences of the restrictions.
