Intrepid Travel 2027 emerging Emerging travel destinations list and alternatives for 2027
Intrepid Travel and forecasting agency Globetrender released their ‘Not Hot List’ for 2027, identifying ten emerging destinations designed to promote sustainable tourism and provide alternatives to overcrowded hubs. Destinations were selected based on infrastructure readiness, lower visitor numbers, and upcoming developments. The list includes Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve, Mestia in Georgia, Northern Highlands in Jordan, Whitehorse in Canada, Alonisos in Greece, Dili in Timor-Leste, the Pekoe Trail in Sri Lanka, Liepāja in Latvia, Carretera Austral in Chile, and Dalsland in Sweden. Liepāja, described as the ‘Baltic Mediterranean’, is noted for its role as the European Capital of Culture in 2027, which is expected to host more than 500 cultural events. In addition to the Intrepid Travel list, other travel publications have released 2027 recommendations focusing on combating overtourism. Lonely Planet has identified two Australian regions as top destinations: the Tweed region and the Red Centre. The Red Centre, which includes Alice Springs and natural formations such as Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Watarrka, is noted for its desert climate and cultural tours led by the Anangu people.
