Recent developments have intensified the probe after a post-mortem examination revealed internal cervical injuries compatible with the application of external force. Consequently, López Granados has been placed under formal investigation for homicide as authorities determine if she applied pressure to his neck or if the injuries are linked to the cardiac arrest. Following her arrest in Madrid, López Granados appeared before a judge in Vielha on September 25. While she maintained her innocence, stating, ‘Soy inocente,’ the judge granted her conditional release after she posted an €80,000 bail. She remains prohibited from leaving Spain and must surrender her passport. The investigation remains complex, as a key witness—the architect’s nephew—remains in a medically induced coma. A recent forensic report has classified the cause of death as being of indeterminate origin. Medical experts have presented two possible scenarios: a natural cause, such as a myocardial infarction, or a traumatic cause related to the injuries found on the victim's neck. During testimony to the Mossos d’Esquadra, López claimed she did not realize Juanpere had died, stating she was lying next to him and did not notice him stop breathing.
