State Deputy Marcelo Aguiar (PL) was detained in São Paulo following a firearm discharge at the Santo Cupido bar in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood. The incident occurred during a confrontation in which Aguiar reportedly showed signs of intoxication and allegedly harassed women at the establishment. During the commotion, presenter Fred Bruno was grazed in the foot by a bullet fragment. While Aguiar was released due to parliamentary immunity, authorities seized a Glock G42 .380 caliber pistol and an official vehicle for forensic analysis. Aguiar’s representatives claimed the discharge was caused by an adverse reaction to medication. As the investigation progressed, the Civil Police of São Paulo updated the police report to include the crime of bodily injury. Presenter Fred Bruno has since filed a formal criminal complaint regarding the incident. Bruno reported pain and swelling following the injury and was referred to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) for examination; he has since shared updates on his recovery via social media, noting he has received medical clearance to resume physical activities. Investigators are currently examining whether the discharge was intentional or accidental, and accidental—specifically whether the deputy voluntarily drew his weapon or if the pistol discharged when he fell during a scuffle—and whether Aguiar’s conduct toward women at the venue constitutes sexual harassment. Due to his parliamentary immunity, the Civil Police have requested authorization from the Court of Justice to proceed with the investigation.
