Youssef Siher identified as alleged leader of Movimento 17 ottobre

Italian authorities have identified 30-year-old Youssef Siher as the suspected organizer of the 'Movimento 17 ottobre' social media group. Siher, a freelance journalist and geopolitical researcher of Moroccan origin, was located in Milan and taken to a police station for questioning. He is under investigation for aggravated incitement to commit a crime.

The group emerged following violent clashes in Milan on October 17. Investigators found that the movement used encrypted chats and social media to organize spontaneous protests and provide a 'protester kit' containing instructions on evading detection, handling tear gas, and using secure communication channels like Signal.

In a related investigation in Crema, police charged ten youths with incitement to racial violence after discovering a chat used to organize patrols against foreigners and 'maranza'. During searches, authorities seized weapons including machetes, knives, and soft air guns.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated that the identification of the suspected leader demonstrates the investigative capabilities of the police and sends a clear message that there will be no safe havens for those organizing violence under the cover of anonymity.
