The Serious Crime Investigation Agency (SCIA) has initiated a formal internal inspection of Lim Eun-jung, the regional head of the Gwangju office. The investigation was ordered by Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung following Lim’s public criticisms of Kim Ji-yong, the nominee for the agency’s first chief. Minister Yoon stated that Lim’s actions appeared to be an attempt to influence personnel matters rather than providing professional input, potentially violating duties regarding political neutrality and professional dignity. The inspection involves analyzing Lim’s social media posts and media statements to determine if she undermined organizational discipline. During his personnel hearing, Kim Ji-yong addressed the controversy by stating that public criticism from a subordinate undermines the agency. Separately, Kim denied allegations regarding private meetings with former President Yoon Suk-yeol and apologized for his past real estate holdings in Seongnam. If Lim has since addressed her status as the first subject of an internal inspection finds that disciplinary action is necessary, the agency will request within the Ministry of newly established agency. Following a visit to the Interior May 18th National Cemetery, she declared her intention to continue providing harsh criticism and Safety advice to deliberate, with final authority resting with a disciplinary committee under Kim should he commit errors. Lim characterized the Prime Minister. inspection as an opportunity to establish precedents regarding the rights and duties of public officials and the limits of freedom of expression, maintaining she will fulfill her duties to stand for what is right.
