Iran is pursuing diverse economic development strategies focused on tourism and renewable energy. The Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts has set a target to attract 2 million tourists and generate 6 billion euros in revenue by 2028, with a specific emphasis on medical tourism and infrastructure improvements. Simultaneously, the government is expanding its renewable energy sector. President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced a goal to reach 30,000 megawatts of solar power capacity within two years. This initiative includes the inauguration of new solar plants in Tehran Province and orders to launch an additional 600 megawatts of capacity nationwide. To support this transition, the government and the Central Bank of Iran are providing financial and infrastructural backing, including an allocation of $1.7 billion for the sector. Recent developments show specific regional expansions to meet these targets. In Tehran province, the 63 MW Qaed Shaheed and 32 MW Shohadaye Lamard plants were inaugurated. Regional efforts include North Khorasan aiming to increase capacity from 3 MW to 100 MW, including solar installations for schools, and the commissioning of a 10 MW plant in Khosf, South Khorasan. Additionally, plans are underway in Malayer to develop 200 MW of solar capacity to ensure stable power for local industries. To bolster the sector, the government has pledged full financial and land-use support for domestic solar panel manufacturers.
