Iran continues to expand its regional trade and logistics connectivity through bilateral and multilateral agreements. Efforts to integrate Central Asian agricultural production with Iran’s processing capabilities remain a key component of regional cooperation, alongside upcoming diplomatic summits in Avaza where CIS, Central Asian, and Caspian nations will address trade and water management. In addition to existing transport corridors, Iran is deepening ties with Russia and Pakistan. The Gilan province is scheduled to host the first Iran-Russia Trade Development Summit at the Anzali Free Zone, focusing on trade opportunities between Iran’s Gilan province and Russia’s Astrakhan region by leveraging maritime, rail, and air access. Logistics cooperation with Kazakhstan has intensified, with cargo transit through the International North-South Transport Corridor rising 12% in 2025 to 3.5 million metric tons. In June 2026, Kazakhstan signed a 27-year agreement to build a 15-hectare transit and logistics terminal at the Shahid Rajaee port near Bandar Abbas under a build-operate-transfer model. Diplomatic engagement with Pakistan is also advancing, with officials aiming to increase bilateral trade from $3 billion to $10 billion. In Isfahan, Governor Mehdi Jamali Nejad met with the Pakistani Ambassador to discuss strengthening trade, culture, and industrial ties, highlighting the province’s 85 special industrial zones. Following a week-long suspension triggered by security concerns—specifically an attack where gunmen set fire to dozens of parked freight vehicles—the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing (Gate 250) in Balochistan has officially reopened. The resumption of trade follows a visit to Tehran by Field Marshal Asim Munir. To mitigate supply disruptions during the closure, Pakistan accelerated seaborne LPG imports through Karachi. While commercial activity has resumed, authorities are initially restricting movement to consignments with documentation dated October 16 or earlier. The reopening aims to address nationwide shortages of LPG and rising food prices in Pakistan.
