Iran and Russia are advancing efforts to deepen energy ties, specifically regarding natural gas. Acting Petroleum Minister Hamid Bord announced that an agreement for the transfer of Russian gas to Iran is nearing finalization, with technical evaluations underway for a transit route through Azerbaijan. In parallel, Iran is engaging with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to expand sector cooperation. Acting Oil Minister Hamid Bouvard traveled to Moscow for the eighth GECF summit to discuss field development, gas exchange, and the coordination of export policies. Discussions also encompass the security of energy infrastructure and the potential for a shared gas market. Beyond gas, energy cooperation between the two nations includes the development of four major oil fields. During the 28th ministerial meeting and 8th GECF summit in Moscow, Bouvard toured the monitoring center of Russia’s Zarubezhneft. CEO Sergei Kudryashov presented the company’s technical capacities to discuss potential collaboration with Iran’s oil industry. Bouvard emphasized that Iran seeks improved coordination regarding field development and export policies, reiterating interests in gas exchange and a shared gas market.
