By early September 2026, the Iranian mobile phone market has experienced significant volatility and price surges. While demand and pricing for flagship models have shown signs of stabilization, mid-range devices—often preferred by the general public—have seen sharp cost increases, with some models exceeding 100 million Tomans. Specifically, certain Xiaomi CMF models reportedly saw price jumps of over 46 percent. Reza Taghipour Anvari, a member of the Parliament’s Industries and Mines Commission, has attributed these hikes to a lack of information management regarding imports, production, and inventory. He further criticized sellers for using an inflated exchange rate of 400,000 Tomans per dollar to calculate device prices. Anvari noted that smartphone prices have increased up to four times within a single year, driven by factors such as illegal warehousing, hoarding, supply chain disruptions, and currency fluctuations. Recent reports indicate that smartphone prices have increased by as much as 300% to 320% within a single year, significantly outpacing the national inflation rate. This surge affects various brands, including Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi. Furthermore, the cost of repairs has risen to levels comparable to the original purchase price of older models. Experts suggest that despite the availability of electronic data and a registry system intended to curb smuggling, the market remains unstable due to incorrect import decisions and a lack of transparent monitoring. Current pricing remains disconnected from official international market rates. Recent data shows the iPhone 17 Pro Max (256GB) priced at 429 million Tomans, while the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (256GB) is listed at 342 million Tomans.
