Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York to lead a diplomatic delegation for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. This marks the highest-ranking Iranian official to enter United States territory since conflicts broke out in late February. Upon arrival, Araghchi spoke with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss the assembly agenda and stated the mission aims to defend Iranian interests and address issues following recent military conflicts involving the US and Israel. While the US approved the delegation's entry, it imposed travel restrictions, such as a ban on luxury goods, and reportedly denied visas to President Masoud Pezeshkian’s communication team. Araghchi’s delegation, which The delegation includes several political and advisor Majid Takht-Ravanchi, legal advisors, has engaged in meetings with Italian advisor Kazem Gharibabadi, and Swiss counterparts to present Iran’s positions. During the assembly, Araghchi met with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani to discuss bilateral relations and regional security. Araghchi criticized Italy for hosting U.S. military bases, characterizing such actions as “complicity in aggression” against Iran and asserting that host governments bear international responsibility for such cooperation. He further warned against the consequences of American unilateralism and accused the U.S. of undermining diplomatic processes through military aggression, linking global increases in fuel and commodity prices to the actions of the U.S. and Israel.
