On 29 July 2026 Israel’s chief of staff, staff Iy al‑Zamir, al‑Zamir warned that the fight against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon was far from over. He said over, noting Israeli forces had seized several areas, were clearing what he called terrorist infrastructure, and would not withdraw until long‑term security was assured, hinting at possible expansion of operations onto other fronts. The following day, Lebanese Army commander General Rudolf Heikal announced that said the Lebanese forces were prepared ready to move into all parts of southern Lebanon once Israeli troops withdrew. Heikal stressed withdrew, emphasizing ongoing border‑monitoring, anti‑terrorism and anti‑smuggling missions and called calling for greater capabilities through regional cooperation, cooperation despite limited resources and continued Israeli violations. On 30 July, speaking on the Lebanese army’s 81st anniversary, Heikal reiterated this readiness, stating the army would deploy across any southern areas vacated by Israeli forces and warning that ongoing Israeli attacks hinder the army’s mission and the safe return of residents. He outlined the army’s duties—securing northern and eastern land borders, monitoring maritime borders, and combating terrorism, organised crime, drug trafficking and smuggling—and urged stronger regional support and cooperation, while acknowledging resource constraints.
