By late August 2026, reports continued to highlight the scale of Palestinian detention and the treatment of minors. The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy reported that approximately 370 Palestinian children are being held in Israeli prisons, with many located in the Megiddo and Ofer facilities. In the first half of 2026, Israeli forces detained 276 Palestinian children across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Human rights organizations have emphasized the frequent use of administrative detention, which allows for holding individuals without formal charges or trials based on undisclosed evidence. Advocates have described the detention process, which often begins with nighttime raids on homes, as a systematic practice. Reports from various rights groups allege that detainees, including minors, are subjected to harsh conditions, such as inadequate food and insufficient medical care. This remains part of a larger detainee population that was reported to exceed 9,400 in early August 2026. Newer reports indicate that the fate of many children detained in the Gaza Strip remains largely unknown. Additionally, the Palestinian Center for Missing and Unaccounted for Persons has estimated that between 2,500 and 3,000 people may have been ‘forcibly disappeared’ during Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip. While the majority of those missing are men, the study noted that women and children are also represented among the missing.
