The funding of Charedi educational institutions in Israel has come under significant legal and regulatory pressure. Following a Supreme Court ruling that halted support payments for over 90,000 yeshiva students and abrekim, the nonprofit organization ‘Truth for Jacob in Israel’ demanded that the Education Ministry and Ministry of Finance restore frozen funds. Furthering this trend, the High Court of Justice issued an interim order freezing NIS 286 million in coalition funds earmarked for Charedi education, requiring the Finance Ministry to justify why these transfers should not be canceled. In tandem with these judicial actions, the Israel Tax Authority has expanded requirements for institutions holding Section 46 status. To maintain the ability to receive tax-deductible donations, schools must now declare that no students are evading military service and provide detailed documentation, including identification numbers and IDF discharge or exemption certificates.
