Israeli settlement and immigration expansion plans
Overview
Israeli leadership has announced significant initiatives aimed at increasing Jewish population and settlement presence across various regions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the government is preparing for a ‘large wave’ of Jewish immigration, or Aliyah, while continuing to expand and legitimize settlements and farms in the West Bank.
Following these announcements, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich introduced a plan to settle one million additional Jews in the Negev and Galilee regions. Describing the initiative as a “revolution,” Smotrich aims to construct 40 new communities and hundreds of thousands of housing units to counter what he characterized as a “threat to Jewish presence” in areas inhabited by Arab citizens. This proposal has raised concerns among Israel’s Arab minority as the country approaches parliamentary elections.
