Tensions in the West Bank have been marked by recent violent confrontations involving Israeli settlers. In late August 2026, a group of approximately 30 Jewish activists attempting to protect a Palestinian family in Jannatah, near Bethlehem, were expelled by settlers. The confrontation resulted in at least five injuries from stones and pepper spray, as well as vehicle vandalism. On August 29, 2026, further violence was reported in the village of Jalud near Nablus. Masked settlers in a vehicle attacked a Palestinian woman, Aida Ahmed Abdullah, and an NBC News reporting crew using sticks and stones. The assault injured Abdullah and three crew members—a producer, cameraman, and driver—while damaging camera equipment and a news vehicle. Video footage showed a vehicle with Israeli license plates approaching the group before masked men in dark clothing exited to carry out the assault. Details from the Jalud incident indicate that while one attacker appeared to be carrying a firearm, it was not used. Correspondent Matt Bradley, producer Lahawez Jabari, and cameraman Khaldoon Eid were among those injured, and Abdullah was reportedly knocked unconscious. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the incident, describing the attackers as ‘a handful of rioters who violate the law.’ The Foreign Press Association joined international organizations in condemning the attack, citing a recurring pattern of violence against journalists and Palestinian civilians. UN data indicates that 76 Palestinians had been killed in such attacks through July 24, 2026. In the village of Qusra, a group of approximately 60 to 70 settlers reportedly stormed a Palestinian home while the owner, Louay Adli, and his family were inside. Adli alleged that Israeli security forces watched the attack and used tear gas on the residence, forcing the family onto their roof to avoid suffocation.
