An investigation in Istanbul has uncovered a privacy scandal involving the recording and sale of private footage via a Telegram channel. The probe originated at the Fatma Özçalışkan Private Metfa Polyclinic in Bakırköy, where hidden cameras were allegedly concealed within devices disguised as PIR motion sensors to record customers in epilation rooms. The investigation was prompted after four women reported being recorded without consent. Investigators identified a Telegram archive containing approximately 15,000 images and videos. The scope of the recordings appears to extend beyond the clinic to include footage from clothing store fitting rooms, hotel rooms, bungalows, and Airbnb rentals. Recent findings from the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch suggest the operation is significantly larger than initially suspected. Investigation files indicate a Telegram channel used to sell these recordings advertised approximately 80,000 pieces of content organized into 20 different categories. These categories reportedly include footage from massage parlors, buses, and IPCAM feeds. Three individuals have been arrested: security systems provider Emrah Selim Cansever, clinic operator Fatma Özçalışkan, and Abdullah Çatalbaş, the manager of the ‘Secret TV +18’ Telegram channel. While Cansever claimed the system was compromised by a cyberattack, investigators noted that WhatsApp messages on his phone contradicted this defense. Following the discovery, the Ministry of Health has suspended the clinic’s operations.
