Itaú Unibanco has initiated a significant expansion of its technological capabilities through investments in artificial intelligence. The bank’s ‘Inteligência Itaú’ platform, which features conversational AI and generative tools, was reported to be used by 3 million customers, with plans to reach the bank’s entire customer base by the end of 2026. To further strengthen its proprietary AI capabilities, Itaú Unibanco announced an agreement to acquire the Brazilian startup NeoSpace A.I. Technologies for R$ 2.925 billion. NeoSpace, which has provided services to the bank for nearly two years, specializes in large foundational data models. The acquisition is intended to accelerate the development of core competencies and enhance the bank’s generative AI assistant, ‘ia. i’, through more personalized and contextualized customer experiences. Under the terms of the agreement, Itaú Unibanco will acquire 100% of NeoSpace shares. The payment structure involves an initial amount at closing, with the remainder deferred over five years subject to specific conditions. NeoSpace will maintain operational autonomy under the leadership of CEO Bruno Pierobon, and the existing team will be retained. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals from the Central Bank of Brazil and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).
