Itaú Unibanco initiated its 2026 corporate internship program, offering various benefits and a monthly stipend of up to R$ 2,600 for students in diverse academic fields. For the second quarter of 2026, the bank reported a recurring net income of BRL 12.4 billion, a 7.8% increase compared to the previous year. This growth was supported by a total loan portfolio of BRL 1.522 trillion. Mortgage lending specifically rose 13.3% year-over-year to BRL 152 billion. The bank’s consolidated return on equity (ROE) reached 24.3%, while the Brazil-specific ROE was 25.7%. CEO Milton Maluhy Filho stated that the bank is prioritizing “private payroll products over traditional unsecured personal lending.” Institutional investment in the bank increased during this period. Bank of America Corp DE increased its position by 155.5%, holding over 10.5 million shares. Other investors, including Daiwa Securities Group Inc and Franklin Resources Inc, also reported increased stakes. As a result of the bank’s performance, its parent holding company, Itaúsa, reported a 7% increase in recurring profit for the second quarter, reaching R$ 4.31 billion. This growth was primarily driven by Itaú Unibanco, which contributed R$ 4.468 billion to the holding, representing an 8.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. In its non-financial investment segment, results were mixed: Motiva, Alpargatas, and Copa Energia showed significant growth, while Dexco, Aegea Saneamento, and NTS reported declines. The non-financial portfolio generated a recurrent result of R$ 141 million, a 26.7% decrease year-over-year. Itaúsa also announced the payment of R$ 2.8 billion in interest on equity (JCP) for the 2026 fiscal year, with a net distribution of R$ 2.3 billion scheduled for August 28, 2026. CEO Alfredo Setubal noted that the company continues to execute its strategy of “sustainable value generation through disciplined capital allocation” despite international uncertainty.
