Italian academic and industrial sustainability initiatives

Overview

Italian universities and industry groups have launched several interconnected initiatives focused on climate change, mental health, and food sustainability.

The University of Turin introduced ‘Mind the Climate,’ a participatory research project using a mobile app to study the psychological impacts of meteorological factors like heatwaves and air quality. Concurrently, the University of Milan and the Climate Media Center Italy established ‘Breaking Climate’ to train journalists in communicating the scientific and economic impacts of the climate crisis.

In the agricultural sector, the EU-co-financed ‘Born Sustainable’ project has united major northern Italian wine and cheese consortia to integrate environmental protection with economic prosperity. Additionally, the University of Turin’s ‘Atlante del Cibo’ group is leading the CIRCLE-Food project under the UNITA alliance, which provides small and medium-sized food enterprises with toolkits to manage surpluses and implement circular economy strategies.
