In early July 2026 Italy launched two major bridge replacements: the 103‑metre steel arch over the Adige at Ravina, Trentino, set for launch at month‑end, and the San Salvatore bridge on the SS45 near Bobbio, which was closed briefly for installation of a new steel structure and reopened to one‑way traffic on 8 July. The same month the Molise regional government and the Province of Campobasso formalised a €15 million agreement to retrofit the Viadotto Anacoreta on the SS 647, funding the project with €12 million from the national Casa Italia programme and €1.5 million each from the region and province, and assigning civil‑protection authorities to oversee design, tendering and testing. Later in July attention shifted to other regions. On 21 July the agreement for the Anacoreta retrofitting agreement was signed, confirming the funding split and the viaduct’s role as a key link closed to heavy vehicles since the 2018 earthquakes. On 22‑23 July technicians Technicians in Lombardy performed load‑tests on the Adda bridge between Vaprio d’Adda and Canonica, on 22‑23 July, a prelude to the planned six‑month closure of the nearby Trezzo bridge in 2027. By 27 July the iron bridge spanning the Ticino between Sesto Calende and Castelletto Ticino was reopened after a week‑long €10 million consolidation, restoring toll‑free traffic and river‑boat services. Also on 27 July, Florence completed the new 550‑tonne Ponte al Pino railway bridge. Installed in a single lift by a 2 000‑tonne crane, the bridge replaces a 140‑year‑old structure at a strategic rail node, enhancing safety, durability and capacity. The ceremony was attended by Vice‑Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, Tuscany President Eugenio Giani and senior RFI officials. The rapid installation limited service disruption to eight days, far shorter than the year‑long outage a traditional method would have required. Together these actions illustrate a coordinated national effort to replace ageing structures, improve safety and enhance resilience against natural hazards. across both road and rail networks.
