Italian cultural, literary, and inclusive community efforts

Italy continues to promote its cultural and literary heritage through diverse regional initiatives. Building on previous efforts like Bibliopride and the ‘Independent Book Tour’, the sixth edition of the Piedmontese book tour continues to showcase 28 independent publishers.

Regional government funding remains a key driver. In Liguria, nearly 600,000 euros support 206 events to bolster community identity and seasonal travel, providing full coverage for 77 eligible municipal applications. In Lazio, over 4.1 million euros have been earmarked to modernize cinema halls and outdoor arenas, focusing on technological innovation, energy efficiency, and accessibility. The Ministry of Tourism has also extended the deadline for the Green Tour 2026 program to October 8, 2026, providing 109 million euros to assist businesses in sustainability and digitalization, with revised scoring criteria for energy and digital investments.

New cultural and tourism perspectives are emerging to foster deeper engagement with Italian identity. Edoardo Sylos Labini’s book, ‘Le Città Identitarie’, proposes a contemporary Grand Tour through twenty stages representing each Italian region, aiming to rediscover the historical richness of provincial towns beyond mass tourism. Complementing this, new itineraries suggest exploring Italy through its cinematic history.

Social and artistic programming remains active, including the ninth Festival Treccani in Lecco, which focuses on the theme of dialogue, and the C. Re. A. residency in Calabria. Social inclusion efforts include the ‘Un Mare di Inclusione’ project in Le Castella, the ‘Stesso Campo’ sitting volley project in Livorno, and a new ‘Listening Bar’ project in Isernia to support youth. Additionally, the Marche region’s ‘Itinerario della Bellezza’ has begun promoting sustainable tourism at UNESCO sites, recently representing the region at the World Tourism Event in Assisi.
