Cultural exhibitions in Italy are exploring historical perspectives on nature, science, and art. In Mantua, the Fondazione Palazzo Te launched ‘Inventare la natura. Leonardo, Arcimboldo, Caravaggio’, an exhibition running from late September 2026 through January 10, 2027. Curated by Barbara Furlotti and Guido Rebecchini, the event examines the Renaissance concept of nature through the works of artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Arcimboldo, Carracci, and Caravaggio. The display explores the relationship between the natural world, artistic production, and court culture, utilizing seven thematic sections—‘Create’, ‘Destroy’, ‘Feel’, ‘Reproduce’, ‘Know’, ‘Astonish’, and ‘Animate’—to reflect 16th-century views. Other regional displays further this theme of historical naturalism. In Turin, Palazzo Madama is hosting an exhibition on 18th-century gardens, tracing the evolution from geometric Renaissance styles to Baroque aesthetics through botanical plates and engravings. Additionally, Mantua’s Palazzo d'Arco is presenting ‘Naturae – Collezioni scientifiche’, which showcases 19th-century scientific collections, including wax models and artifacts related to botany, geology, and entomology. Expanding the scope of major Italian art displays, the Reggia di Venaria is hosting ‘Atelier dei Moderni’, focusing on 20th-century painting. New programming for late 2026 includes a major exhibition at Gallerie d’Italia – Vicenza dedicated to Giandomenico Tiepolo, running from October 9, 2026, to January 17, 2027. Organized by Intesa Sanpaolo to mark the artist's tercentenary, the show features 68 works from international institutions institutions, including the Louvre and the Prado, to establish Tiepolo's artistic autonomy. Other scheduled events include a Marcantonio exhibition at Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste in Ravenna and a Marc Chagall display in Vercelli, which features a European premiere of ‘Il clown dal volto verde’.
