Various regions in Italy are implementing road maintenance, infrastructure redevelopment, and urban renewal projects that necessitate temporary traffic and parking restrictions. In early October, maintenance works were scheduled in Forio involving pavement repairs and in Bari, where the Statale 16 ‘Adriatica’ underwent median strip replacement, restricting traffic to a single lane. Simultaneously, significant closures were announced in Pisa for building demolition as part of urban regeneration, while Florence saw road narrowing and one-way systems due to Terna interventions. In Como, asphalt maintenance across several streets resulted in further localized traffic and parking prohibitions. Recent developments show these infrastructure activities continuing through mid-October, with asphalt works in Como affecting six streets and additional maintenance scheduled in Blevio and Faenza. In Florence, Terna’s interventions in Quartiere 4 continue to impact local mobility through one-way systems and parking restrictions. Other regional projects include sewage system upgrades in Germignaga and residential building demolitions in Pisa aimed at urban regeneration and hydraulic safety. As of early October, construction on the Statale 340 Regina in the Tremezzina area is ongoing, with expectations of significant heavy vehicle traffic. Additional maintenance and safety measures are being implemented elsewhere, including road resurfacing and lane closures in Catania, flood prevention improvements in Russi, and new pedestrian and cyclist safety measures on Viale Prati in Riva del Garda. A major milestone was reached on October 5 with the completion of the 950-meter San Donato tunnel excavation on the A1 motorway between Firenze Sud and Incisa Reggello. Conducted by Autostrade per l’Italia, the excavation took 495,000 hours and is part of an 18-kilometer, €1 billion expansion of the Autostrada del Sole. The new tunnel is designed to accommodate three lanes of southbound traffic to alleviate congestion on a route carrying roughly 30% more traffic than the national average.
