Italian judicial proceedings in Rome

Overview

Legal developments in Rome involve separate high-profile cases. In one instance, the Rome Review Court upheld the imprisonment of former publisher Valter Lavitola regarding a bombing at the residence of Sigfrido Ranucci. Judges described the evidence against Lavitola as ‘granitic’ and maintained the ‘mafia method’ aggravating factor, noting contradictions in his testimony regarding his role in the explosive attack.

In a separate matter, the Third Section of the Rome Court of Appeal overturned convictions related to the proposed AS Roma stadium project in the Tor di Valle area. The ruling acquitted several key defendants, including former Rome Assembly president Marcello De Vito, following an investigation into allegations of corruption, illicit influence peddling, and illegal financing. Additionally, the court reduced the sentence for entrepreneur Luca Parnasi and declared that proceedings against Giulio Centemero and Andrea Manzoni could not continue due to the statute of limitations.
