Italian authorities have conducted a series of inspections across different regions to combat illegal labor, workplace safety violations, and hygiene standards. In Palermo, an operation involving the Carabinieri Labor Inspectorate and the INPS targeted various commercial sectors, including clothing stores and beauty centers. The inspections identified irregular practices in six out of eight examined companies, resulting in the suspension of four businesses and fines totaling over €100,000. In the province of Cagliari, a joint inspection by the Carabinieri and the Labor Inspectorate Nucleus revealed similar violations. A company was issued over 15,000 euros in administrative sanctions following the discovery of undocumented workers and a lack of mandatory safety documentation. Recent inspections in the Salerno province on September 18 and 19 targeted five establishments, identifying 15 undocumented workers and leading to approximately 119,000 euros in fines. Expanding on these efforts, NAS Carabinieri inspections during the summer season in Salerno resulted in the suspension of 27 businesses, including restaurants and beach clubs, due to critical sanitary issues such as mold and pest infestations. These actions led to the seizure of 8.5 quintals of food products and approximately 120,000 euros in fines. In Foligno, inspections of hair salons and aesthetic centers on September 18 resulted in 30,000 euros in fines due to failures regarding professional risk training and personal protective equipment. In the agricultural sector, authorities in Verona and the province of Padova identified irregularities including undeclared labor. Additionally, a multi-agency task force inspected construction sites in the Bagnoli area related to America’s Cup works to ensure legal compliance and worker safety. Expanding the scope of oversight, on these efforts, a parliamentary commission of inquiry is now investigating workplace safety and labor exploitation in Sardinia. Recent developments in public works include the suspension of construction at the Piazza Fontana Grande site in Castellammare di Stabia.
