The Union of the Centre (UDC) secured the Taranto provincial council in June 2026, while the Democratic Party (PD) rolled out a series of internal elections across the country. In July, the PD renamed its Siena provincial secretariat, installing Nico Bartalini as secretary and unveiling a 15‑member executive team that called for an immediate meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the future of Monte dei Paschi di Siena. The UDC held its national council in Rome, where the Puglia delegation, led by Gianfranco Chiarelli, announced a September festival and reaffirmed priorities on electoral law, housing, employment, youth opportunities, innovation and digitisation. Local authorities also faced fiscal and governance pressures. Mayor Antonio De Luca of Pignola warned that a regional budget cut reduced the Potenza urban area’s allocation from €15 million to €9 million, jeopardising projects such as a historic‑centre parking facility. In Corridonia, council members debated incompatibility proceedings against Mayor Umberto Spalletti after an audit revealed excess allowances of about €36 000. Meanwhile, Trani’s mayor Marco Galiano and the local PD demanded transparent criteria for provincial‑fund allocation after the three‑year public‑works programme was revised, urging the provincial president to publish the decision‑making process. In late July, the Siena secretariat rename and its request for a meeting with the prime minister were reiterated, and the UDC national council at the Crowne Plaza confirmed the 12‑13 September festival dates. The PD also announced a new local secretariat in Piombino, led by Secretary Fabio Cento and comprising eight coordinators covering organisation, culture, economic development, environment, tourism, volunteering, welfare and urban planning, signalling continued efforts to restructure local party leadership ahead of the 2027 national and 2028 regional elections.
