Local school bus services in Italy have faced scrutiny regarding funding and accessibility. In Sava, the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) criticized the municipal administration for relying solely on local resources to fund a new green school bus. M5S representative Manuel Vozza noted that Sava was excluded from a previous Puglia regional initiative that funded 32 electric buses for neighboring municipalities. Additionally, the new vehicle is not expected to arrive until February 2027. In Fiavè, a dispute has emerged after three elementary students were denied bus service because their residence is 960 meters from the school, failing to meet the one-kilometer provincial threshold. Families have raised safety concerns regarding the lack of sidewalks on the route used by heavy vehicles. Mayor Beniamino Bugoloni described the situation as a “bureaucratic case” and proposed a double-trip solution to address both the distance issue and limited vehicle capacity. As the school year begins in Trentino, the controversy in Fiavè persists. While the Autonomous Province of Trento and Trentino Trasporti have launched transportation services for over 20,000 students across provincial and mountainous zones, the strict application of distance regulations remains a point of contention. Parents specifically highlighted the dangers of students walking along the SS 421 state road, which lacks sidewalks and is frequently used by heavy trucks and agricultural vehicles.
