In late July 2026 Italian authorities moved from draft measures to permanent law on swimming‑pool safety. After the Chamber of Deputies approved a bipartisan amendment to the Sport Decree on 23 July, the Senate gave final roll‑call approval on 29 July, converting the decree‑law into the Decreto Sport. The legislation codifies strict standards for all suction devices – bottom grids, skimmers and recirculation systems – to eliminate the “venturi” suction‑vortex ~~hazard.~~ hazard, a response to a series of fatal suction‑incident cases. Facilities that fail to meet the criteria must close immediately until upgraded.
