Italian regional and national authorities are increasing financial resources to support victims of violence against women. In Liguria, the regional government allocated 614,000 euros to third-sector organizations for new domestic violence shelters, following a previous 556,268 euro allocation to municipal administrations. Vice President Simona Ferro stated the goal is to ensure timely responses for those fleeing violence. Piedmont has approved over 2.18 million euros to bolster support networks, utilizing the Fund for policies related to rights and equal opportunities. The funding is distributed among anti-violence centers (approximately 863,466 euros), shelters (706,491 euros), and emergency or second-level reception solutions (roughly 307,877 euros each). Regional Councilor Marina Chiarelli noted the measure aims to provide psychological and legal assistance to prevent irreparable harm. At the national level, the Department for Equal Opportunities has ordered an extraordinary transfer of 3.9 million euros to Inps to bolster the ‘Reddito di Libertà’ (Freedom Income) program for 2026. This follows reports that demand in certain regions exceeded the initial 16.5 million euro allocation. The ‘Reddito di Libertà’ provides up to 530 euros per month for up to 12 months to help women achieve economic and housing autonomy. To qualify, recipients must be supported by recognized anti-violence centers and social services while experiencing poverty linked to their situation of violence. Recent updates confirm the Department for Equal Opportunities has transferred the additional 3.9 million euros to INPS, prioritizing applications that were previously eligible but lacked funding. For 2026, the monthly contribution will be 530 euros, totaling up to 6,360 euros over 12 months. The benefit is available to Italian residents, EU citizens, and non-EU citizens with valid residency, including refugees, with applications processed through local municipalities.
