Overview

The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) has implemented new high-level training initiatives for the 2026/2027 season to develop youth talent.

Initially, the FIR launched an elite youth development project involving 89 athletes across Permanent Training Centers (CDSF) in Milan, Treviso, and Rome. This program utilizes a “dual path” approach to balance athletic training with academic requirements.

Following this, the federation announced the selection of 30 players for the Ivan Francescato National Academy in Parma. This academy, working alongside the existing training centers, provides a developmental pathway for more than 100 U20 and U18 athletes annually, with the academy squad set to compete in the 2026/2027 Coppa Italia.
