Italian municipalities and national authorities are advancing social housing, urban redevelopment, and infrastructure projects, largely supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). In early October 2026, regional housing initiatives were highlighted in Trento, which approved rental and purchase opportunities for moderate-rent properties, and Novi Ligure, which opened a tender for social housing rentals prioritizing residents facing overcrowding or disability. In Trento, the local government approved a call for the rental of six moderate-rent properties, three of which include an option for purchase, while the Autonomous Province of Trento set a window for sustainable-rent public housing applications through late November. National investment in the education sector has expanded significantly. Minister Giuseppe Valditara reported that approximately 23 billion euros are being invested, including 13 billion euros dedicated to school buildings, resulting in over 12,000 authorized interventions. These range from fire safety upgrades at the Angelo Roncalli school in Pistoia to the construction of a new multi-level school complex in San Ginesio. Additionally, Rimini has allocated 154,000 euros for security and comfort improvements in several kindergartens. Urban regeneration and social service efforts continue to expand. In Scandiano, the Unione Tresinaro-Secchia opened the ‘Stazione di Posta’ in the Palazzina Lodesani, a 510,000 euro project designed to integrate social services into the city center. In Varese, a 1.8 million euro reception center and poverty relief hub opened to provide social housing and dormitory beds for vulnerable individuals. Other major works include a 400 million euro plan to make parts of the Tiber River swimmable in Rome by 2032, a 41.5 million euro Anas project to reconstruct the Tevere viaduct in Orte, and social investments in Umbria and Borgosatollo. Discussions regarding the PNRR legacy took place at the fifth Infrastructure Academy in Rome.
