Italian television networks are developing new scripted content set in Tuscany. Canale 5 is preparing to air ‘Erica – Una detective per caso,’ a three-episode miniseries produced by 7 Verticale and RTI for Mediaset. The series, directed by Ciro D’Emilio, is an adaptation of a French series based on novels by Swedish author Camilla Läckberg. Starring Vanessa Incontrada as a mystery novelist who becomes involved in a real murder case, the production was filmed in Piombino and San Vincenzo between September and October 2025. On September 2, 2026, the series premiered on Canale 5 to significant viewership success. The debut drew 2,320,000 viewers, representing an 18.9% share, which made it the “most-watched program during prime time,” outperforming competitors such as the musical event featuring Cesare Cremonini on Rai 1. The plot follows Erica Magliani, a renowned thriller writer returning to her hometown of Piombino to manage her parents' estate. Following a violent incident involving a close friend, she uses her psychological intuition to assist Commissioner Leonardo Carrese, played by Francesco Scianna, in a criminal investigation. While Mediaset has not officially announced a second season, the extensive source material from Läckberg’s book series suggests potential for future installments. Simultaneously, Rai is working on a new long-form melodrama produced by Banijay. The project consists of 28 episodes to be broadcast over 14 prime-time slots. Following a strategy similar to the successful series ‘Il Paradiso delle Signore,’ Rai intends to use the prime-time run to gauge audience interest before potentially transitioning the show into a daily daytime soap opera. Additionally, Rai 1 is featuring the crime drama ‘Morgane - Detective Geniale,’ which follows the investigations of a character named Morgane, including cases involving various murder investigations.
