Italian communities continue to hold ceremonies to commemorate victims of Nazifascist massacres and partisan executions from World War II. In the Veneto region, commemorations honored eighteen partisans and three civilians killed at Malga Zonta in August 1944, as well as four members of the Brigata Piave killed in Refrontolo in October 1944. Recent ceremonies in Pietrasanta involved local institutions gathering at the Baccatoio stream to honor 14 men killed and abandoned in August 1944. In Castelleone di Suasa, the 82nd anniversary of the Liberation was marked with a dedication to three partisans—Pietro Brutti, Amedeo Galassi, and Alessandro Maggini—who were executed in Ostra in February 1944. In Tredozio, memorial services honored members of the Brigata Corbari executed following the massacre at Ca’ Cornio and San Valentino in August 1944. Additionally, preparations in Ravenna are underway for the 82nd anniversary of the Ponte dei Martiri massacre, featuring a theatrical performance titled ‘L’Idea vive’. As the 82nd anniversary of the Liberation is observed in September 2026, various municipalities have organized regional programs. In Rimini and Riccione, authorities held ceremonies to mark the liberation from Nazi-fascist occupation in September 1944. In Riccione, officials from Italy and Greece gathered at the Hellenic Cemetery to honor 146 Greek soldiers of the Rimini Brigade who died during the Battle of Rimini. In Rimini, commemorations included visits to the Commonwealth war cemetery and the Monte Cieco monument to honor the sacrifices of the 4th Indian Division and Gurkha soldiers who fought along the Gothic Line. These events also coincided with the 80th anniversary of the first post-war municipal elections in October 1946, which introduced female suffrage to the region. In October 2026, ceremonies continued to honor Resistance fighters and press freedom martyrs.
