Italy rolls out social car rental scheme

The Italian government officially launched a €50 million social‑car‑rental pilot on 23 July 2026, targeting low‑income households with an ISEE below €30 000. Beneficiaries must scrap a Euro 4 vehicle owned for at least twelve months and receive a new Euro 6 car (CO₂ ≤ 135 g/km) on a 36‑month lease for €100 per month, VAT‑included, covering insurance, maintenance, tax and roadside assistance, with a 12 000 km annual mileage limit. After the lease, users may purchase the car at a 10 % discount. The programme, overseen by Minister of Enterprises Adolfo Urso and ACI president Geronimo La Russa, will provide up to 3 000 vehicles, each ~~capped at~~ priced no higher than €14 ~~800,~~ 800 net (€18 056 gross), and runs until 30 June 2030.
