IWC Schaffhausen is releasing two limited-edition stainless steel timepieces to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Ingenieur SL design, originally created by Gérald Genta. The anniversary models include 40mm and 35mm versions of the Ingenieur Automatic. These editions draw inspiration from a rare 1976 version of the original Ingenieur SL. While the standard collection typically utilizes a ‘grid’ dial structure, these anniversary models feature a brushed, silver-plated dial finish to honor a specific, scarce historical variant that lacked the signature grid pattern. The watches maintain Genta’s industrial aesthetic, featuring the signature bezel secured by five screws, 100 meters of water resistance, and convex sapphire crystals. Specific technical details for the release include the Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary (Reference IW328910) and the Ingenieur Automatic 35 50th Anniversary (Reference IW324909), with both versions limited to 1,150 pieces each. The 40mm model is equipped with the manufacture caliber 32111, offering a 120-hour power reserve and an anti-magnetic soft iron inner case. The 35mm model utilizes the caliber 47110, providing a 42-hour power reserve and a sapphire crystal caseback. In a departure from standard branding, the signature lightning bolt logo has been replaced by the number 50. The launch involves the Gérald Genta Heritage Association, founded by the designer’s widow, Alexia Genta, and daughter, Evelyne Genta, to preserve his design legacy.
