The İzmir National Library, in collaboration with the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, launched a special exhibition titled ‘In the Footsteps of Documentary Heritage: Rare Works of İzmir’ at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center.

The exhibition features 61 rare items, including 26 manuscripts, lithographs, and printed books that span from the Ottoman era to the history of the Turkish Republic. Notable pieces include the 15th-century ‘Düstûrnâme-i Enverî’, a 1531 Latin edition of Aristotle’s collected works, and a Quran brought from Crete to İzmir in 1922. Other highlights include maps by Kâtip Çelebi and a 1927 edition of the Nutuk containing military operation maps from the War of Independence.

Dr. Serhan Kemal Saygı, Director of the Ahmet Piriştina City Archive and Museum (APİKAM), noted that the İzmir National Library holds over 2 million books and more than 4,000 manuscripts. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open until November 15.
