Jakarta commuter rail and road disruptions during protests

Overview

On August 27, 2026, massive demonstrations in front of the DPR/MPR RI building in Jakarta caused significant disruptions to public transportation and road access.

KAI Commuter implemented service adjustments on the Rangkasbitung Line due to crowds gathering near railway tracks in the Palmerah-Tanah Abang area. Services from Tanah Abang toward Parung Panjang and Rangkasbitung experienced delays, route diversions, and limited speeds, with some trains restricted to traveling only as far as Palmerah Station. While passenger numbers for the Jabodetabek KRL Commuter Line dropped by 15.7 percent compared to the previous week, KAI Commuter maintained 1,065 scheduled trips. To manage safety, 126 security personnel from KAI Commuter, TNI, and Polri were deployed to strategic stations including Tanah Abang, Juanda, Sudirman, Palmerah, and BNI City, supported by rescue vehicles and medical staff.

TransJakarta also implemented route diversions and temporary service suspensions, particularly affecting Corridor 9 and various non-corridor routes near Senayan, Gatot Subroto, and Slipi. While BRT services largely returned to normal by August 28, 21 routes were reported affected, and several non-BRT and Transjabodetabek routes faced temporary suspensions or shortened paths.

Additionally, Jasa Marga adjusted traffic operations, including the situational closure of the Slipi exit on the Inner City Toll Road and several toll gates such as Cawang, Tebet, Kuningan, Senayan, Pejompongan, Angke, Jelambar, and Tanjung Duren. By the morning of August 28, traffic on the Cawang-Tomang-Pluit route had returned to normal. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that damaged public facilities, including bus stops and CCTV cameras, have since been repaired.
