Mass demonstrations occurred in front of the DPR/MPR complex in Jakarta on August 27, 2026. Groups including the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) demanded the immediate passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the imposition of the death penalty for corruptors. In response to the protests, police deployed 18,504 personnel to secure zones in Central Jakarta, including Senayan and Gatot Subroto. During the operation, authorities detained 63 individuals suspected of attempting to disrupt the protests, seizing 39 sharp weapons, 201 Molotov cocktail bottles, and illegal drugs. To manage congestion, the Jakarta Transportation Agency implemented various traffic diversions. DPR Vice Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad met with AMPB representatives and confirmed that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is scheduled to be brought to a plenary session for enactment on December 15, 2026. DPR leadership signed a written commitment to finalize the bill by this date, stating they would resign if the deadline is not met. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani expressed openness to receiving public aspirations directly at the parliament building while urging participants to maintain order. Regarding previous financial investigations, Bank Mandiri confirmed it has lifted the temporary transaction suspension on the account of AMPB coordinator Supriyono (known as Botok). This follows a police investigation which found “no criminal elements” in the funds used for protest operations. Parallel demonstrations also took place in Yogyakarta, where students from the Forum BEM DIY marched through Malioboro to demand the bill's passage and greater legislative transparency. Regional authorities in West Java and Yogyakarta issued advisories urging the public to remain calm and avoid provocation.
