Authorities in Jalisco, Mexico, have implemented several measures to enhance regional security and public services. Law enforcement agencies recently focused on professionalization, with 69 state and municipal officers completing specialized forensic and crime scene preservation training. Concurrently, the State Prosecutor's Office conducted inter-institutional checkpoints in Ameca and Jesús María to inspect vehicles for legal compliance and stolen property. Building on these efforts, the Jalisco government presented a 2027 professionalization strategy for municipal police, emphasizing training, institutional strengthening, and trust evaluations. In addition to security, the Jalisco State Congress approved legislative reforms for public health screening programs. The state legislature also initiated hearings to investigate allegations of police misconduct during a recent protest and to address environmental concerns regarding landfill contamination in the Milpillas River. Recent legislative actions by the Jalisco State Congress include the approval of three dictums aimed at improving public health through early detection of visual, auditory, and renal conditions. These reforms propose coordinated screening programs for primary and secondary school students, as well as neonatal auditory screening to identify hearing loss. To address ongoing oversight, state deputies have summoned members of the security cabinet and the State Environmental Protection Agency to testify regarding police misconduct allegations and leachate contamination from the Picachos and Hasar’s landfills.
