The NC demanded the immediate restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees, while the BJP marched to protest the Omar Abdullah-led government over issues such as unemployment, corruption, and rising electricity tariffs. These demonstrations led to police intervention and several detentions.

By late September, the conflict moved into the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. BJP members staged a protest against a resolution to restore statehood introduced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, objecting to the specific language regarding the region’s constitutional status and a 2000 autonomy resolution. The unrest involved BJP legislators entering the ‘well’ of the House, throwing papers, and submitting a notice to remove Speaker Abdul Rahim Rathore. Despite the chaos, the Speaker maintained that the session would proceed.
