The wave of sexual assault and harassment incidents in Bihar has expanded to include a new report from Banka. In that district, police registered an FIR against six unidentified youths after a video surfaced showing a woman being harassed and assaulted with a slipper at the Mandar Hill tourist site. Authorities have since identified three suspects—Abdullah, Nitish Kumar Rai, and Vikas Kumar—and are conducting raids to make arrests. The National Commission for Women has taken ‘suo motu cognisance’ of the incident, demanding an action taken report from the Bihar police. Political tensions have intensified following these developments. In Jamui, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary faced criticism from the RJD over a deleted social media post that allegedly revealed the identity of a minor victim, an act opposition leaders claim violates the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. RJD MP Misa Bharti joined the criticism, accusing the Chief Minister of violating the act by sharing a photograph with a minor victim. Following these allegations, an FIR was registered against an employee of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Patna regarding the post. In Samastipur, where four individuals were arrested for the molestation of a minor, Union Minister Chirag Paswan has called for stringent police action. Police apprehended several individuals, including Dharmendra Sahni and Raushan Kumar Mishra, following a viral video of the harassment near the Jagatsinghpur dam. Investigations have since expanded to Kishanganj and other areas, with recent reports including the arrest of an auto-driver in Bhojpur for molesting a student and the arrest of two youths in Darbhanga for the sexual assault of a minor. In Muzaffarpur, CCTV footage was released showing a minor girl being harassed, assaulted, and subjected to an attempted abduction on September 23. New reports of sexual violence have emerged in Begusarai and Samastipur.
