Former German news anchor Jan Hofer announced a transition into live commerce through a partnership with the shopping broadcaster HSE. At age 76, Hofer co-developed the ‘Jan Hofer Signature Collection,’ a twelve-piece capsule line of classic, muted-tone clothing including sweaters, trousers, and loungewear. Hofer stated his objective was to provide ‘orientation, not trends.’ The collection is scheduled to debut via livestream on November 17. In addition to the fashion line, Hofer announced a new live stage program during an appearance on the MDR talk show ‘Riverboat.’ This program is intended to discuss the mechanics of news reporting and reporting—including how reports were once physically flown to studios—and provide instruction on identifying ‘fake news’ through fact-checking tools and reverse image searches. Following these announcements, meteorologist and former colleague Jörg Kachelmann publicly criticized Hofer on the social media platform X. Kachelmann referred to Hofer as a ‘slimy colleague’ and made disparaging remarks regarding his physical stature and his desire to remain on camera. The two men previously co-hosted the talk show ‘Riverboat’ between 1997 and 2004.
