Municipal authorities in Puerto Morelos and Puerto Juárez have announced various festivities for the Janal Pixan celebrations to commemorate the Day of the Dead. In Puerto Morelos and Leona Vicario, events such as the Mar de Almas Festival and the Alma y Raíz Festival are scheduled for late October and early November. These celebrations include a traditional sea procession involving registered vessels, with authorities implementing measures to protect local marine fauna and reefs. Organizers expect over 6,000 attendees. In the Puerto Juárez delegation, preparations are underway for a four-day festival from October 30 to November 2. The event will feature a 600-meter corridor of approximately 160 vendors selling regional food and crafts. To prevent price gouging, the Direction of Commerce and Public Services will deploy inspectors to monitor the area. Cultural programming includes theatrical performances and an altar contest. Additionally, the community of Calderitas will host the inaugural Janal Pixán ‘Tradición Viva’ festival from October 30 to November 1, 2026. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has invited the public to participate in the free festivities, which are intended to honor deceased loved ones through cultural, artistic, and gastronomic activities. The program features catrina parades, traditional altars, Caribbean dances, legend storytelling, and regional crafts, alongside a spectacle of souls navigating the Chetumal Bay. Expanding the regional celebrations, Playa del Carmen will host its third edition of Janal Pixán from October 31 to November 3, which will include monumental altars and cultural performances.
