Japan Airlines (JAL) has engaged in several initiatives to expand its non-aviation business and mileage program utility. In late August 2026, JAL announced a strategic partnership with Kasumigaseki Capital focused on hotel development. This collaboration includes the Naha Higawa Hotel Project in Okinawa, with construction slated to begin in November 2026 and an expected opening in summer 2029. The partnership also integrates JAL Mileage Bank with FHG HOTELS, allowing members to earn miles one mile for every 100 yen spent when booking through the official bookings. website via the JAL Mileage Park. To commemorate the launch, a promotional period from August 27 to October 29, 2026, offers reduced exchange rates for accommodation coupons. JAL Global Club members will also receive access to special pricing at FHG HOTELS properties. To increase the utility of the JAL Mileage Bank, several financial institutions have introduced transfer promotions. Capital One launched a 30% transfer bonus running through September 30, 2026, which improves the standard transfer ratio of 1,000:750 to approximately 1,000:975. This allows cardholders to redeem miles for partner awards on airlines such as Emirates, American Airlines, and LATAM. Notably, Capital One cardholders may be able to redeem miles within seven days of transfer, despite JAL’s typical 60-day account age requirement. Additionally, Citibank has added the JAL Mileage Bank as a new transfer partner for Citi ThankYou rewards. Under this arrangement, Strata Elite and Strata Premier cardholders can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio. To mark the partnership, Citi is offering a 30% transfer bonus through October 24, 2026. During this period, 1,000 points from eligible annual fee cards will transfer as 1,300 miles, while eligible no-annual-fee cards will transfer at a rate of 1,000 points to 910 miles, up from the standard 1,000 to 700 ratio. Recent reports note that while the addition is a significant development for the rewards ecosystem, users should review certain lifetime language provisions included in the update.
